About

Laura Shummon Maass

I grew up in Milwaukee Wisconsin, but have lived in over 8 different cities, each with their own unique voice and personality. I would describe my photography style as a mix of street and landscape, but I have a strong desire to move more in the direction of documentary photography. Photography to me is about capturing viewer interest, and telling the story of a person or place.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Address:

Ul. kneza Branimira 6, 20000, Dubrovnik, Croatia

Why I liked living here

Entering Dubrovnik is like stepping back in time. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it truely feels like another world. The winding streets and alleyways are a maze that I loved getting lost in, but my favorite spot was the hidden beach we found by entering a small arched hole in a wall. A truely magical place.

Paris, France

Address:

36 Rue Beaurepaire, 75010 Paris, France

Why I liked living here

While living in paris my main form of transportation was the metro and my trusty bicycle. Biking around Paris is in my opinion the best way to get around the city, as it allows you to see things that you otherwise would have missed. The city has put a strong focus on bike safety, and almost every main route has a protected bike path. Our apartment was located in the canal district, which is a less touristy, but just as beautiful, area of the city.

Blarney, Ireland

Address:

Blarney, Cork, T23 Y598, Ireland

Why I liked living here

My time in Blarney was mainly in the winter months of Ireland, which coming from Milwaukee WI, was similar to a warm spring season. I spent many days curled up reading a book, looking through the window at the farm fields beyond. My favorite part about Ireland is that you are never very far from a beautiful hiking trail. We rented a car during our time here, and I highly recommend anyone else traveling to Ireland to do the same. You adjust to the left side driving pretty quickly, and it really is a wonderful way to see the country.
